It is surprising how time flied.
A few months ago in September, I was at an opening at my neighbor gallery. Walking On The Moon was a group exhibition that featured three Brooklyn based artists who share abstract composition oriented works with bold lines and shapes and colors.
Although there was no explanation for this exhibition, the title is probably from the sculptures of winter groves by Fanny Allie. http://www.fannyallie.com/index.html especially from her sewed sculptures. I should have asked about the story behind.
Sofia's 20 pieces of works on paper are experiments of different mediums and composition and colors. When we get closer to the work we notice that not all of them aren't a single piece of flat paper but there are papers collages on.
Not only papers but we can see that paints are layered over and over for some pieces.
She says that she sometimes paint over the initial work and start over a new piece on the same paper. That means it is not an intended part of finished work technically, but because it is abstract piece, the marks left in the process do count.
Her work, that are somewhat masculine, if not neutral, than feminine as guesture reminds me of Paul Jackson Pollock in smaller frames. Although I haven't have a chance to see her making, I can imagine her clearly and that excites me like watching a short film.
Congratulations to my friend Sofia on the group show.
